This has been a fun weekend! We made a point to do some things together for enjoyment since I’ll be away for a week. Usually it seems that we spend the weekend recovering from our week but we really went to the wild side this weekend. (smile)
It started on Friday evening after Ron got home from work. He changed clothes and we ate a very quick supper and took off to First Presbyterian Church here in Tyler for a concert. The concert was by Kiev Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. It was performed by mostly professional musicians who are involved in a church in Kiev. It has had some relationship with the churches Dawn has worked with there. I’m not sure that there is anyone in the group that Dawn knows right now but we decided to go hear them. The music was beautiful! The program was delightful. One of the solo violinists played high notes like I have never heard before! There wasn’t a squeak, the tone was full and clear. Okay, I won’t ramble on and on. I just want to let you know that if you ever get to hear this group, make the effort. It will be a delight.
Then today (Saturday) we went to the Edom Festival of the Arts. I don’t know how long it has been since they have had this festival, but it has been a long time. I’ve heard of it for years. We finally went this year! The artists who participate must be juried artists. Run-of-the-mill crafters are not allowed. This is the “big-time”. Well, at least there is some standard that must be met!
In order to get there, we passed another of my favorite haunts Blue Moon Gardens. It is a wonderful gardening place that has plants, classes and a great gift shop. I didn’t have time to go there, but at least we drove past.
Now, back to the art festival. We bumped into a bunch of OLD friends that we haven’t seen in a long time. That was fun. It was also fun to see the art: jewelry, photography, watercolors, pottery…that covers most of it. Of course, we also had food and enjoyed the sunshine!
Surprisingly, the one thing we didn’t participate in much was the big Tyler event! The Tyler Rose Festival! Most of the scheduled events clashed with our schedule! The event I like to attend is the Thursday afternoon Garden Party (the new name for it). That is at the Rose Garden and you can see all the attendants and the Queen up close. (Now you KNOW there has to be a Queen don’t you? This is Texas darlin’!) This week I had to work, so couldn’t go to that.
There is also a coronation. I have considered attending that before, but either my schedule has clashed or the cost has been higher than I wanted to pay! Then, on Saturday mornings, there is the parade. When I watch that, I usually do it from the comfort of my own home. It is always on TV. Today, we were getting ready to go to Edom so missed the festivities on TV. Oh well, there is always next year.
Now, for tomorrow. Tomorrow, I’ll be working 3-11. It is very rare that I work on Sundays, but tomorrow I will be. So my weekend is almost over. Hope you have a great one…and a good week too!
