“Is not the Lord your God with you?
And has he not given you peace on every side?
For he has delivered the inhabitants of the land into my hand,
and the land is subdued before the Lord and his people.
Now set your mind and heart to seek the Lord your God.
Arise and build the sanctuary of the Lord God,
so that the ark of the covenant of the Lord and
the holy vessels of God may be brought
into a house built for the name of the Lord.”
I Chronicles 22:18-19
I’m in the middle of an e-retreat at Christian Mommy Blogger. (Yes, it’s a first for me!) Because of our move, I’m about a week behind. This was one of the verses we were to meditate on. There was a lot to think about when I looked at the context.
So often, we think of big projects as being a bit Lone Rangerish for the person leading them. That is the person who has to share the vision for the project and often do a lot of work to bring it to fruition.
For David, his dream was to build the temple. But GOD wouldn’t let him. Because of all his warring that was also in obedience to GOD’s command, GOD didn’t want David to be building the temple. So he did everything he could to get the supplies ready and ease the way for the building of it.
In this passage, David is exhorting Solomon as he begins this project. Isn’t it interesting that he didn’t go into details on the work, but rather reminded Solomon that GOD was with him and that he needed to set his mind and heart to seek GOD!
