He gives power to the faint,
and to him who has no might he increases strength.
Even youths shall faint and be weary,
and young men shall fall exhausted;
but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:29-31 (ESV)
This is one of the passages I mentioned in my New Year’s post. It reminds me of how often I am weary, but fail to go to Jesus, the One who can give me strength when I am weak.
I am so used to being self-sufficient that I don’t make use of the resources I have in Christ.
What is your first response to your own weakness and inadequacy or failure?
Do you try harder to be stronger, do better, be more independent?
Do you turn inward and get depressed, feeling like you will never be able to do the Christian life? That may be a good place to be since it is true, but it isn’t a reason to get depressed even though I have! This is when we can go to Christ to meet our need!
Or do you turn to Jesus for to ask for the resources you need?
- Emotional and spiritual stamina
- The love you need for a given situation
- Grace and mercy
- Even the patience to wait on Him and His timing
