it is full of meaning.
many concepts came to mind
when i heard this prompt tonight.
blue sky, the blue waters of the ocean
both so vast.
i grew up in south Florida
we often went to the beach to swim.
sometimes it was hard to tell where one started
and the other ended.
during the ’70’s, my husband and i lived in Jamaica.
again, we frequently found ways to get it to the beach
even though we lived in the mountains.

there is also the association with royalty…royal blue
the military…navy blue, as well as a classic color and style.
shades of azure, turquoise and cerulean sound more poetic
and brighten the palette
but they are blue just the same.
all those years in Texas taught me to love denim
the color as well as the fabric. it is a workhorse! stop
it endures forever.
and even after all those washings,
it still has that faded look that we love.
finally, there are “the blues.”
both the music and the feelings.
i have come to appreciate blues music.
it seems to express the reality of life in a broken world.
and i can move and sway and lose myself
in the funky beat of the music.
the blues that are the feelings
are another story.
they aren’t as fun.
they come on me like a black cloud.
i can be minding my own business
and the blues will settle over me…
uninvited and unwanted.

But in the middle of those blues
